‘Passageways’ – Ecosomatic Methodology in Dance and Performance
This video illustrates ecosomatic methodology in dance and performance practice. The ‘passageways’ referenced in the video reflect the primary sites and themes of Raffaele Rufo’s work between 2020 and 2024.
The key ingredient of this approach is a more-than-human dramaturgy of double movement (outward/inward), in which the environment invites us to follow directions that, subtly internalised and reciprocated, generate new “doors” or openings towards the other.
In Danced by the Tree, I developed improvisational movement scores for synesthetic encounters with trees in urban parks and forests around Milan. In Return of the Centaurs, I explored the relationship between doorway and ruin, showing how the seemingly ordinary passageways of an archaeological site (Pompeii) can become sites of memory for rites of passage.
